Pagham Under 12's exceed expectations in 25 over thriller (May 11, 2008)

Pagham's inexperienced under 12's side came into their second game of the season with high hopes following their narrow defeat last week.

Eastergate won the toss and opted to bowl first.  Skipper Joe Turner and Curtis Poole stepped forward to open the batting for Pagham. Within nine overs both  openers were forced to retire after scoring the maximum permitted individual total of 20 runs each.
The following Pagham batsman continued to play in a confident manner to achieve a big first innings score. Good contributions from all the Pagham batsman ensured  they posted a challenging 105-5 total from their 25 overs.

Pagham opening bowler Xav Southerton produced a tidy opening spell with the new ball off his 3 overs but failed to make the breakthrough. Lewis Tribe then bowled with mennacing pace but despite getting several outside edges the youngster was unlucky not to claim a wicket. All bowlers showed excellent discipline forcing the Eastergate players on to the back foot, being well supported by some top class fielding.

After 25 overs Eastergate finished 93-7 and Pagham won the game by 12 runs.
There are still many things to work on in training but Pagham can be proud of their start to the season where they appear to be a vastly improved side to the team of last year.
