Pagham captain Stuart Rutter won the toss and asked Bognor to bat first.
Bognor got off to a terrible start, losing Max Ashmore (0) in the first over to
Mike Hales (2-45) and Elliott Clarke (2) and Glenn West (0) to Craig Primmer
(2-56) – and were struggling at 11 for three.
Luke Seward and Phil Ball took the score up to 38 before Seward was stumped for
18. Oli Handson came in and Pagham set defensive fields, allowing Handson and
Ball to get used to the wicket.
The pair looked in good touch and with excellent running, they put the pressure
on the bowlers.
Handson brought up his 50 but perished soon after when caught on the boundary
off Hales.
Rob Willway was adjudged lbw for one off the bowling of Joe Metz, but Liam
Geoghegan (13) and Ball put on 57 before Ball fell for a classy 92, having
deserved a ton.
Bognor declared after reaching full batting points on 202 for seven.
In reply, Will Rolls was bowled for nought by Charith Jayaweera, but Matt Colban
(21) and Chris Hayden (26) took the score to 42 before an inspired spell by
Graham Bush (3-43) dismissed Colban and Dave Galea (13).
Hayden hung around for his team, and
Metz
looked settled at the crease, taking the score to 85 before Hayden was bowled
by Willway.
Bush had
Metz
caught and bowled for 29 with the score on 128, and it was anoyone's to win.
However, an excellent innings of 45 from Wayne Green, and a few hefty blows
from Craig Primmer took Pagham to the brink of victory, but Green fell with the
score on 181.
Primmer continued to hit the ball long, and left Pagham requiring just one run
from the final over.
Mike Hales felt the nerves and was run out for three from the first delivery,
but Stuart Rutter hit a boundary to seal a deserved victory for Pagham, as they
finished 206 for seven.
